Welcome to the Institute of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering. Our focus is research and teaching in the fascinating area where Physics, Engineering, Biology and Medicine overlap and interact. This is an area of strong growth both nationwide and worldwide, where a few of the most important scientific questions of our times are tackled, such as the functioning of the human brain. Besides, it has an exceptionally relevant human dimension that translates into tangible improvements in healthcare. In these pages, you will be able to find information about these subjects, and to share our enthusiasm.
» Research at IBEB inspires project awarded today at the BES Inovação awardsA project inspired in research done at the Institute of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering (IBEB) of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL) was awarded today the first prize at the BES Inovação awards in the IT & Services category. The project involves an innovative person-machine interface for mobile devices and apps and was developed by Ricardo Santos, Andreia Dias, Dora Inácio and Rui Santos, students of the BSc/MSc programme in Biomedical Engineering and Biophysics at FCUL (Ricardo is now at IST); André Ribeiro alumni of the same programme (presently at the Imperial College London); and Hugo Ferreira, professor at the Physics Department of FCUL and researcher at IBEB.
